Silhouette at work

I finally got to put my Silhouette Cameo at work. Thanks to "A Cut Above" online card classes for walking through what Silhouette has to offer. I got a Cameo couple of months back after hearing a lot of good things about it and seeing a demo at Chaitali's. But the first time I tried, I tried to cut some intricate patterns which kinda became messy and I never got to use it again.

I was inspired by Jennifer McGuire's card on Birdhouse using Silhouette. I loved the card so much that I exactly got the silhouette cut file and exactly followed the steps that she did as I wanted to closely learn the technique. My first try was messy as I did not like how the distressed part came out with vintage photo distress ink. I guess distressing the whole card is not my thing. So I tried again, and this time I used 6x6 designer paper and did it more like paper piecing. She used a technique called welding to make the front and back of the card. And then I mixed it up with traditional die cutting using Cuttlebug. The inner mesh you see, is cut using traditional die-cut from memory box. The bird is also the same from Silhouette - singing bird. "Hugs" is from Ali Edwards digital diecuts.

Pradeep's Birthday

This April is full of my friend's birthdays. Never realized I have so many friends who are all born in the month of April. Seems like I gel well with Aries and Taurus folks. :)

This time it is my friend Pradeep's birthday and it's tomorrow. I have to say, making a birthday card for guys is so much harder than for girls. My style is more feminine I think. I like more flowers, ribbons, nature, scenery etc. But for a guy's card, I wasn't sure if I could use any of those. So I ended up using some neutral colors. I think polka dots is still girly but all the stripes I had were a little darker and I did not like to make it a dark card. So I still went with polka dots and ribbons, but used a stamp from Digi Doodle Shop called "Special Delivery" and colored it with copic markers and cut it out. Replaced the small cupcake with a bigger one that I cut out.

I stamped the inside of the card with the below sentiment and I matched the inside with the cupcake that's on the card front. Clearly I need to make more guy's cards. :)

This one goes to Day 53- Super Sketchy Sunday challenge on 365 cards. And here is the sketch.

Belated Birthday Wishes Carolina !!

Hey Carolina, Belated Birthday wishes to you !! Sorry I was out all weekend. Biked 40 miles on Saturday and walked 8 miles yesterday and got back home so exhausted that I did not check the forums or the blogs. So I missed wishing you. I know I am late but I mailed you a card today. Sorry for the delay!!

Here is the one I made for you. My first experiment with Copic markers. I found this cute "Birthday friends" digital stamp on Digi Doodle Ship. Colored with BV000 and N1 and R24 copic markers. Yes, I got some finally, after stopping myself for a long time now. :)  Yellow has become my new favorite color when it comes to cards as it brings so much brightness to the card. Hope you like it.

I know most of my blog followers know you already, but for folks who do not know her, she is one of my new friends I made, thanks to SplitCoastStampers forums. Check out her blog here.
